I have SQL server 2008 R2 installed.
In the past I have installed the Redgate Sql Promprt 5 add-in. It doesn't work anymore, but I still have the menu in the SQL Management Studio.
I don't see the add-in in the Programs and features list in windows 7, so I can't uninstall it. When I click on a command in the menu I get this message:
The Add-in supporting this command could not be loaded. Do you wish to remove the command?
When I choose 'Yes' it removes only the selected command from the menu.
I want to completely remove the add-in from my Management Studio.
Where can I find the add-ins and where can I configure them in Management Studio 2008 R2?
If I need to remove some files to get rid of it, where could I find these files?I looked in the installation folder and didn't find anything about add-ins..

I didn't ask RedGate to slow down my SSMS with no way to disable it.

I had same issue under 120. It seems Addins are now stored in Program Data. I renamed file but didn't help. I had to open/run SSMS in Administrator mode and this fixed it. Later I deleted the Addin from folder 'C:ProgramDataMicrosoftSQL Server Management Studio12.0Addins'. May be you can try renaming the Addin with '_'. That was the only difference in me renaming the file and SSMS in Admin mode renaming it.

I had the same error when loading SQL Server, an Add-in from another related application was giving that error. I didn't need that Add-in, but couldn't remove it. Even removing from the registry (thanks for posting that by the way) didn't work for me. I had to uninstall and reinstall the related application (Toad for SQL Server) and the 'Add-in' was no longer an issue.

I was using SSMS Tools but it kept autosaving my queries which I couldn't easily disable. Therefore I had to remove add in.

Are there any free, or cheap plug-ins/add-ons for SQL Management Studio that provide intellisense and (less importantly) some auto-formatting? I've recently tried Redgate's product and really like it for these features, but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives.

Late answer, but might be interesting to the thread visitors
Have you heard of ApexSQL Free tools - ApexSQL Complete and ApexSQL Refactor? These might be just what you need.
ApexSQL Complete autocompletes SQL keywords, and has a ton of other SQL Server productivity features for SSMS and Visual Studio, and it is completely free.
ApexSQL Refactor is SQL formatter with over 160 formatting options - it is too completely free.
Both of these are SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio plugins, so you can use them directly from within SSMS and VS.

Check out our dbForge SQL Complete. It is an add-in for SSMSthat offers autocompletion and formatting of T-SQL code and supports SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008
Recently we have released a new major version (2.00) which includes much more new features.
There's two editions – Express, which is free and has basic autocomplete and formatting functionality, while Standard Edition offers more features, has 30-days free trial and costs only $49.95.

I am a big fan of the Red-Gate tools.
SQL Server 2008 has some of the intellisense built in when working with compatible servers. I've heard of but never tried the SMSS Tools Pack.

For Intellisense style suggestions db Forge SQL Complete (Free Edition) works great for me. No lag in Management Studio that I experienced with some of the other free add-ins like SQL Prompt.
Didn't agree 100% with the Formatter so just don't use it.

This is a demo to show how to build an addin that can be used from within the Visual studio tooling that weprovide for Dynamics 365 for Operations developers.
The addin is intended to be instructive, but also useful. It basically allows you to work with Dynamicstabular objects in the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) tool. It will harvest interesting metadata forthe tabular object selected in the model view, and open a window in SSMS allowing you to do advanced queries againstthe data. The tool handles table inheritance and relations to other tables, generating the joins as required.
With this tool you can:
Once the window has been opened in SSMS you can edit as required for your purposes.
Building the tool
The code should be easy to build in Visual Studio once you fix up the references topoint to the place where your product specific assemblies live. The output from asuccessful compilation is an assembly that can subsequently be deployed using thebatch file that is part of the project. Currently the command file is run when thecompilation is completed. If this is not what you want, you can change the post-buildevent command line in the Build Events tab in the project properties.
Note: You will need to restart Visual Studio to get access to the new add-in.
Using the tool
Once the tool is built and deployed as described above, it is available inthe addins menu in the Dynamics 365 menu. This particular addin is designed to be appliedon a selected designer node, so you have to open the table in the designer touse it; you cannot use it directly from the Application Explorer at this time.
Creating Add-ins of your own
It is easy to get started writing your own addins. Just open Visual Studio, create a new projectand choose the template called 'Developer tools Addin' from the 'Dynamics 365 for Operations' set. This will create a project with examples of both a Mainmenu addin (i.e. an addin that is visibleon the Addins menu on the Dynamics 365 menu, and that is not tied to any particular metadata artifact),and a Designer addin which is appears when a particular artifact is selected in the designer. There areTODO comments indicating where you should put your code.
After you have successfully compiled you solution, you can invoke the InstallToVS batch file todeploy the assembly so that Visual Studio will pick it up the next time it starts.
This project has adopted the Microsoft Open Source Code ofConduct. For more information see the Code of ConductFAQ orcontact [email protected] any additional questions or comments.

I've recently started delving into SSMS Addons.
I'm really loving RedGate SQL Prompt 5 (refactoring/better intellisense), though it's spendy. the trial is going swimmingly. http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-prompt/
With that I like RedGate SQL Search (Free) http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-search/
and
RedGate Tab Magic: http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-prompt/entrypage/sqltabmagic also free and a godsend.
That said, other nice tools:
SSMS Tools Pack: http://www.ssmstoolspack.com/
Or as free (but not as nice as RedGate's offerings, IMHO)(They 'seemed' slower and I like RedGate's code formatting better, I never could tune Apex Complete's to be just how I wanted it..even though there were vastly more options..) are the ApexSQL Free tools:
http://www.apexsql.com/products.aspx (Apex Complete, Apex Refactor, Apex Search)
Does anyone else have any 'must have' tools for SSMS they'd like to share?
